Could the 1991 Beringer Reserve Cabernet be the wine of the vintage?

I always enjoy visits to my brother's home in Warren since he has an wonderful wine cellar that has many wines that are not part of my wine collecting history. Yesterday was no exception as we tasted a number of great wines throughout the day. The highlight of the day was the 1991 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet which still had the price tag of $39.99 on the bottle. I would rate the wine 98+ points.

This wine may well be the wine of the vintage in Napa Valley. If my memory serves my right, the only other wine that could be in this league is the 1991 Stags Leap Cask 23 but that wine I have not tasted in a number of years. The color of the 91 Beringer PR Cabernet was dark and inviting, showing no signs of aging. In the mouth, the wine was rich, smooth and satisfying. This is just a fabulous wine that should be added to your cellar.

Oddly enough, you can find this wine at wine auctions at very reasonable prices. The key would be to purchase a pristine case of 12, that has been in a temperature controlled cellar for the past 12+ years. If you can find this wine at auction, I would bet you could pickup the bottles under $100 each, which at this quality level, is a bargain. I use the word "bargain" because many Napa properties are releasing new wines today at over $100 per bottle that have no track record for aging and/or will take another 10 years to enjoy. You can start your research at www.winebid.comor www.winecommune.com.

The 1991 Beringer PR Cabernet is a great wine to find and enjoy today! If you have a bottle in your cellar, try it soon and send me your tasting notes.
