1991 Silver Oak Bonny's Cabernet Sauvignon

A nice surprise indeed! A friend invited me over for a glass of wine and to my great pleasure he opened a 1991 Silver Oak Bonny's Vineyard Cabernet. In a blind tasting you would swear this was a Bordeaux wine. If you told me it was a California wine I would have guessed it produced by Philip Togni.

Now if you are a point collector, Robert Parker and the Wine Advocate publication gave this wine 90 points. This may be one of the greatest mistakes that Parker has made in under-estimating the greatness of this wine. The current auction price of this gem is under $100 and I would RUN out and find some properly stored bottles for your cellar.

Enjoy this wine over the next 5 years and find a wonderfully balanced wine from the 1991 vintage, which was the year of special climactic conditions that raised the soil temperature in Napa ...which Dick Steltzner claims produced wines of unique character.
