2002 Hoopes Cabernet Sauvignon -
The Next Oakville Screamer?

My experience with Hoopes is limited to the 2002 vintage but take a moment to read the review by noted wine authority Anthony Dias Blue:

"Wow....wow...Yipes. Really nice because it has that smooth and velvety taste with good underlying acidity. Really quite good. It is big but has soft feminine aspects. It reminds me a Screaming Eagle".

OK..is it that good...Yes...it is Very Good Is it Another Eagle? It could be another winner from Oakville like Screaming Eagle.

Yes. I Would get on their mailing list and try the upcoming 2003 vintage which was just bottled. Production is very limited.

I had the wine tonight with a meal at "Le Fandy Restaurant" in Fair Haven and it was wonderful. The wine had a long finish and great depth of fruit and balanced tannins. I would not drink another of my 2 remaining bottles for 3-4 years.

The packaging is also fun; it comes with a ceramic dog tag and a picture of a dog jumping through a hoop on the label. There was no Fax Number on their website but I did find a phone number by searching the Internet. Bad design for people trying to contact them but a good wine. They have a form on their website to signup for their mailing list and in the comments section, tell them that you read about the wine in www.brianpasch.com.
