One Great Wine Bargain - For Syrah Lovers

Lately it's been hard to find a great wine under $30 that I could recommend to my readers. I don't know if I'm in a slump or just getting cheap but it seems like all new release from California are starting over $50 and even the Australian wines have been jacked up in price of late. So when my friend Don Asay brought over a bottle of the Paul Jaboulet Aine Crozes Hermitage "Domaine Raymond Roure" from the 2003 vintage, I was shocked that this wine sells for just under $30 retail.

Please note that Jaboulet makes many different wines so look for the "Domaine Raymond Roure" designation on the label.

If you like a full flavor Syrah with perfect balance and cellaring potential this is the candidate of the year. The price tag puts in right in the sweet spot to compete with Australia but this wine has much more to offer that a typical mass produced fruit bomb. Finesse and finish; this wine has it all at a great price. The inside scoop is that at the wholesale level, this wine is moving fast.
