2005 Orin Swift Prisoner

I was introduced to the "Prisoner" at my friend Frank McCann's home last week. The Prisoner is a favorite of Frank's wife Patricia. I had heard about the Orin Swift winery but had never tasted their wines. Oddly enough, we started with a Robert Parker 100 Point wine; Sine Qua Non "For The Love of It" that was just drinking "ok" at this time. When I switched to the Prisoner, I did a WOW and said...what is this wine???

Writing a review about a Zinfandel blend brings back many emotions. It recalls a time when Turley Zinfandels first hit the market and I was on their initial mailing list. At the height of the Zinfandel insanity, I was; allocated 4-6 cases of Turley wines and at one point past prime time, I just dropped off the Turley mailing list. Why? I found out that most Zinfandels do NOT age gracefully. It was my decision to stop buying Zinfandels in volume because I couldn't drink them fast enough when they were in their prime.

So, fast forward 10 years, and I'm in my friend's home doing a WOW over the 2005 Prisoner; a Zinfandel blend. I highly recommend this wine. The 2006 Prisoner sells for around $32 a bottle. The 2005 Prisoner was a joy to drink. With the 2006 Prisoner coming to market this month, I'm ordering a case of the 2006 to have as a house wine.
