Five Great Syrah'sLast night I had a few guests over and we decided to taste some "big" red wines. It was a rainy night and a bit cold so the decision to taste some thick and juicy Syrah's was the clear choice to me. Rarely can you pick five bottles in a row that everyone would enjoy. It was a great tasting and here are five wines that should be in your cellar. 2002 Amon-Ra Shiraz from Ben Glaetzner, a Barossa Valley producer in Australia. You can learn more of this wine at www.glaetzer.com 2004 Red Car "Redwind" Syrah from California. You can learn more about Red Car Winery by going to www.redcarwine.com 2003 Red Car "The Fight - Round 2" is the second vintage of this Syrah, a knockout punch indeed! 2002 "Old Bastard" Shiraz from Kaesler Winery in Barossa Valley, Australia. Learn more about this great Australian winery by going to: www.kaesler.com.au 2002 Colgin "IX" Syrah is a new wine from Ann Colgin. You can learn more about Colgin wines by going to www.colgincellars.com (not pictured) The thickest and juiciest of all five was the "Old Bastard" which everyone loved but noted that they could not drink such a concentrated wine all night. The most elegant Syrah was the Colgin Syrah which didn't surprise me since Colgin Cabernets are some of the softest and most enjoyable Cabernets made in the US. All five of these wines should be sought out and placed in your cellar if you like a big, bold and delicious wines. Brian Pasch - October 12, 2005
