Grand Cabernet Tasting

Brian Pasch Rumson Wine Tasting Sometimes you plan a wine tasting and it comes out perfect; last night was one of these tastings.

Ten friends and 24 bottles of wine made a unique tasting of California Cabernet's from 1995 and 1996.

There were four flights of wine, with six bottles in each flight. (6x4 = 24).

Most of the wineries in the tasting, except for the fourth flight, included one bottle from their 1995 vintage and one from their 1996 vintage. This allowed us to compare how the producers 1995 vintage compared to their 1996 vintage.

In the coming days I will post the wine reviews from the wines that we tasted and the tasting notes from the group. As a teaser, here were the favorites of the four flights:

Flight 1: 1996 Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill
Flight 2: 1996 Dalla Valle Napa Cabernet
Flight 3: 1995 Vineyard 29 (1996 Araujo a close second)
Flight 4: Tie: 1996 Bryant Family and 1995 Screaming Eagle

On the wine cellar table is the opened case of the 2003 Scarecrow Cabernet which was tasted and was spectacular. More to say on the 2003 Scarecrow later but if you don't have it in your cellar, run out and get some!
