Magnificent Merlots from Italy

I'm writing from Milan, just thinking about all the great wines I have had on my trip so far. I'm so excited about of few wines that I decided to update you from abroad so you can search out this great wines before they disappear from the market.

My brother Scott accompanied me on this trip and he is an avid French wine collector and fan. He is not a big fan of Italian wines but does have a nice collection of Super Tuscans.

Tenuta di TrinoroWhen we tasted the 2000 Tenuta Di Trinoro, their top wine which is 100% merlot and retails for about $300 per bottle, Scott was amazed. He called it the Screaming Eagle of Italy; it tasted and smelled like a great California wine. I also think that this may be one of the finest wines I have ever tasted from Italy and the best of the year so far.

The 2004 vintage has just be release to the market which will be another fantastic wine. If you or a friend is an avid Italian wine collector, they should search out and find this wine. If you can't find it in the States, send me an e-mail and I can connect you with some Italian sources to purchase the wine. You can also e-mail the winery at: info@trinoro.it

I also had a chance to taste the 2001 Tenuta Dell' Ornellaia "Massetto" which is another 100% merlot wine from Tuscany. In the past I have to admit that Massetto has not been a wine that I have enjoyed in the past, although I have tasted many vintages from the 90's. This vintage was amazing and the best Massetto that I have tasted. Again, this is an expensive wine which sells for over $250 a bottle but for serious collectors of Italian wine, this is a must for your cellar.
