Osticcio Wine Shop - Montalcino Italy
This year I brought some friends along with me to Montalcino so we had 12 people tasting wines on a sunny afternoon to find the very best of the wines in the tasting. We tasted about 20 wines and recommended less than 10 to my readers and friends who buy from Tullio each year. Osticcio has a special permit that allows him to ship directly to the United States. Everyone at the table voted for each wine in a very basic system.
This scientific method (LOL) is a great way to get people to talk about each wine and I kept score. After tasting the wines with and without food, we re-tasted the lowest scoring wines to confirm our group's ratings. When all was said and done, we recommended a mix case of eight wines to send to people in the USA.

The two best wines of the tasting were the 2004 Avignonesi Asinone and the 2001 Brizio Reserve Brunello di Montalcino. If you can get these wines locally I would highly recommend that you purchase a bottle and confirm our groups tasting results. The
best wine shop in Montalcino Italy is Enoteca Osticcio run by Francesca and Tullio Scrivani. Each year I visit the
wine shop to taste new producers from the region or the latest vintage of my favorite Brunello di Montalcino wines.
The photo on the left is Tullio Scrivani, owner of Osticcio, leaning over to discuss with me about the wines we were
tasting. Tullio set out number placemats for each person, water, breadsticks and some assorted local cheeses.
We tasted all the wines without any cheese and then re-tasted all the wine with cheese and bread.
