Sarah & Sparky Marquis Start Solo Winery ProjectI recently visited Vail Colorado, staying at a beautiful 6 million dollar mountainside home to taste some great wine. I was invited to Vail by Sarah and Sparky Marquis (Mar-Kwis), the fabled winemakers from Australia. Sarah and Sparky have been the driving force behind wines such as Integrity, Shirvington, Fox Creek, Marquis-Phillips, Henry's Drive and Parson's Flat. The purpose of the trip was to plan the release of their new wines from their solo-winery project. After years of helping others making great wines, Sarah and Sparky are launching their own label. My readers will get first shot at their new wines due out in August of 2006. In Vail, Sarah and Sparky brought barrel samples from their first vintage from 2005. The guests had the chance to create their own blends from the barrel samples of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet. The tasting was amazing. The 2005 vintage will be known for great fruit and structure. If you love Australian wines, you can go direct to their US website and request to be put on the first inaugural customer list for Sarah and Sparky's new winery. All I can say is that their award winning track record will continue full force with their upcoming releases. Sparky will also be coming to New Jersey a private tasting of his new wines so if you are interested, send me a note. Remember to bookmark: www.mollydookerwines.com Sarah and Sparky are no longer associated with Dan Philips and the Grateful Palate. This is a great change for their winemaking talents since they can continue to focus on quality and not quantity.
For those who care: Mollydooker: a left-handed person. Also mollydook, molly dook(er), molly-dook(er). For an updated document on Sarah & Sparky's background, click through here. Brian Pasch - Updated March 30, 2006
