Sine Qua Non - Papa 2003 SyrahI hesitate to write about the wines from Sine Qua Non because they are so hard to find at reasonable prices. The majority of the winery's production goes direct to their mailing list. The remaining bottles are allocated to the finest restaurants in the world. The only chance to taste these wines is to either visit a wine collectors cellar, stop bye my house, or to buy them at auction. A few weeks ago the 2003 "Papa" Syrah arrived in my cellar; I'm one of those lucky mailing list customers. I always try to taste the Sine Qua Non Syrah's on release to benchmark their aging potential. The 2003 Sine Qua Non Papa Syrah is another home run from Sine Qua Non in the likeness of "Just for the Love of It" which received 100 points from Robert Parker. Parker rates the "Papa" at 99 points; this is no slacker! This is a fantastic bottle of wine and worthy of an aggressive search on the Internet to purchase this wine. The wine is in perfect balance between its fruit and tannins. This is California Syrah at its finest! Retail price is $95 per bottle on release.
