Vinoce Winery - A New Player in California worth investigating

This weekend I opened a magnum of the 2002 Vinoce Cabernet Franc Blend at a party in West Orange; my first experience with this new winery. Vinoce was recommended by my friends at Dean & DeLuca wine store in St. Helena California. I would rate then wine between 93-95 pts. The wine has such great potential!

The wine was young but very balanced. The aging potential of this wine was amazing; I think this wine will go easily for another 10+ years. The wine reminded me of great Viader wines or even the intensity of fruit that young Maya's (Dalla Valle Winery) exhibit in the glass. This is a wine for those readers who hate wimpy wines!

I think this wine is very worthy of tracking in your cellar. The 2002 vintage may still be on the market so I encourage you to find a bottle. Readers who will enjoy this wine will be ones that enjoy the excitement of Cabernet Franc and Syrah. The wine is deep, dark, purple and bursting with flavors. The tannins are well integrated but I would love to taste this wine in another five years! So maybe you should buy 2-3 bottles and start tasting this wine every five years and document how it evolves.

Get on Vinoce Winery's mailing list as soon as you can!

Here are the specifications of the wine from their website for the  2002 Vinoce Cabernet Franc Blend"

Harvest Data: Grapes picked in early October

Average Sugar at Harvest: Cabernet Franc 25.2 Brix; Cabernet Sauvignon 24.8 Brix ; Merlot 25 Brix

Fermentation: Careful tannin management is an important factor in our producing powerful, yet elegant mountain wines. Our fermentation is completed in barrel, which accelerates early integration of fruit and oak.

Barrel Aging: 18 months in new French Oak. Toast levels vary in barrel selection.

Blend: 60% Cabernet Franc, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot

Alcohol: 15.0%

Appellation: Mt. Veeder, Napa Valley

Brian Nuss, Winemaker's Tasting Notes:
Seamless integration of flavors from start to finish backed by supple tannins. Fleshy and complex; full bodied, luscious in texture, and long, with aromas/flavors of toast, caramel, plum, oak and tobacco.
