Undici Restaurant Review - Rumson New Jersey

Undici Restaurant RumsonOn December 7, 2007 I wrote a review of Undici Restaurant and asked for reader comments based on their own experience at Undici.  I have received a number of emails and decided to pick one to post for our website.

This review is by Kathy Costanzo who lives in Metuchen New Jersey.  Her email in in red type:

Dear Brian,

Thank you so much for explaining to me the reason I could not find Undici's web site on Google. My husband and I had heard about the restaurant while dining at Basil T's for my birthday in November 07.

We live in Metuchen and head for Red Bank to antique and luncheon every few months. Finally yesterday we decided to have an Easter lunch out and to try Undici....All I found on the Internet was a few reviews and not very flattering ones either. I'm curious that since you were there in November and made the discovery of the 100% Flash...search problem...why hasn't Undici modified their web site? Sounds like you could do this for them. It really is such a beautiful web site.

Anyway....I actually read a portion of your review of Undici on another site and since you were open to feedback I would love to get some positive words out about this place. We went Saturday afternoon around 2:00.....it was peaceful and not crowded.

The reviews I read were mostly about quality verses price. I do think Undici can be very expensive if your not careful. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine selection and guided us away from "by the glass" if we were going to have more than one glass each...we chose a Sant Elena Pinot Grigio 2004...it was excellent. The bread "board" was a variety of 3-4 breads with ricotta cheese & olive oil. Light and complimentary to the wine.

My husband and I shared all our selections......

  • Minestrone soup, chocked full of veggies, water based broth and we added freshly grated parmesan.

  • Mescullin salad with pine nuts, garbanzo beans and gorgonzola cheese.

  • Spinach & ricotta Gnocchi with fresh tomatoes and basil also with freshly grated parmesan.

  • Sei Piedine which is a chicken Milanese sandwich wrapped in pizza bread.

  • Nutella Tort served with fresh whipped cream.

  • Cappuccino & double espresso.

All the selections were plated simple and appealing. We were satisfied without being stuffed and thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and the personable attitude of our server Suzette.

Our bill came to $116.00 before tip. Without the wine it would have been $70.00!

I know people will say we shared our meal and we had lunch instead of dinner...but it was our way of not spending too much, having everything we wanted and not stuffing ourselves. Perhaps this would be a good way for those who feel the price is high to experience the beauty of the restaurant and also take some time to relax mid day ....just like the Italians do in Italy.

Give this lovely establishment a chance!!

I always try to keep a fair and balanced approach to all things I write about on this blog.  Thanks Kathy for writing your own review.
