I’ve lived in New Jersey all my life and I have written dozens of article about New Jersey events, lifestyles and restaurants. I’ll be moving the articles back into this WordPress site so keep posted on the progress over the next month.
When Comfort Food Is All You Need
A while back, I visited my parents in Washington New Jersey, a small town on Route 31 in Warren County. Not far from Washington is the historic town of Clinton, where we dined together at the Clinton House, established in 1743.
Guests dined on ample portions of steak, seafood and traditional American dishes with a price tag that seemed too low for those diners accustomed to New York City restaurants or even some of the better destinations in Monmouth County. I enjoyed a perfect Filet Mignon, baked potato and a side of broccoli. Everything was done to perfection!
The rustic atmosphere was complimented with attentive service, prompt delivery of our dishes and all dishes were prepared exactly as requested. The experience brought me “back down to earth” and made me reflect on the many places in NJ that serve comfort food without all the glitz and associated higher price tags.
I think sometimes I get caught up in the “next big” restaurant concept when at the end of the day, the majority of people just want to find a good meal at a fair price with good friendly service.
To that end I would like to hear from you about your favorite “down to earth” eateries and what dishes you like to enjoy at your home-cooking favorite. I will create a summary of all the responses I receive in an upcoming article. This will help all readers find some good places to go when they don’t want to “dress up” and need some down to earth cooking.
